8 Years of Amazing Impact on Young People through PE and Sport
The End of the SSP Era
At the end of what has been a very turbulent year for school sport, it is very sad that the time has come for SE Somerset School Sport Partnership to close. Since September 2003, colleagues across the region have been working together to make a difference to young people's lives through PE and Sport. Following the Government's decision to change the funding for SSPs, it has become non-viable to continue to run it in the same way as before.
Fortunately, following a minor U Turn by the Government, and many months of hard work by SSPs across the County, there will be a continued service, in support of the School Games Initiative which is seen as the new legacy of the 2012 Olympic Games.
Every Secondary and secondary deemed Middle school will receive money to release a PE teacher for one day per week to work on developing competition and supporting school sport. To find out who your School Games Coordinator is please contact your local school.
South Somerset will also be supported by a new School Games Organiser, Steve Gass, who will be based at SASP in Wellington and King Arthur's in Wincanton. The Partnership wishes him all the best for the future. This web site will close at the start of 2012. For more information please go to www.sasp.co.uk
Thank you to everyone who has been involved over the last 8 years. It has been a privilege to be part of such a fantastic programme and see the difference sport can make on young lives. Rob Treacher.

Leadership Changing Students' Lives
24th & 25th September saw the culmination of the first ever Somerset Leadership Academy at Outposts Adventure Centre in the Quantocks. The Leadership Academy set out to provide an exciting leadership learning environment to enable young people to develop a range of life skills through active and team work challenges.
After attending a series of leadership training events, students are reporting that as a result of their experiences they feel more empowered to take control of their learning with greater confidence and stature than ever before.
