Bowls Victory For Swanmead

  The second annual Bowls match took place last week between Maiden Beech, Crewkerne and Swanmead Community School in Ilminster. Children aged from 10 to 13 took part following a number of coaching sessions at their respective clubs.

Step into Netball Scheme

The Maiden Beech and Swanmead clusters have recently held Step into Netball festivals with children from their feeder First Schools. All Year 3/4 children from 9 First Schools were involved in a competitive festival. It is intended to widen this scheme with inter-school matches organised by the PLT’s and supported by the SSCO. There would also be a large festival each year at the Middle Schools in Crewkerne and Ilminster.

Go Riders at Maiden Beech cycle club

A Go-Ride school club has been established at Maiden Beech school linked to the First Chard Wheelers cycle club. The sessions are proving to be a huge success. There are over twenty pupils attending the weekly club sessions directed by coach Brandon Ellis from the Chard club. At the present time pupils have to arrange to bring in their own bicycles and helmets each week to take part ensuring they are all in a safe condition to take part.

Somerset Schools Futsal Festivals

On Tuesday 20th April and Thursday 22nd April the Somerset Schools Futsal Festivals were hosted at Buckler’s Mead School, Yeovil. Co-ordinated by Somerset FA and supported by the South East Somerset Schools Sport Partnership the event saw schools from all over the south of the County compete at U10s, U12s, U14s and U16s. It was a brilliant two days of competitive Futsal as the winners of the 3 older age groups will now go on to represent Somerset at the Regional FA Youth Futsal Qualifier next month.

Engaging the Disengaged at Maiden Beech

Maiden Beech pupils who do not always take part in PE or games for all sorts of reasons were targeted as a group to get involved in activities they might enjoy. A number of activities were selected by the pupils on the understanding it would be an after school activity.
