National Award Winner at Sexey’s School

Robbie Carrick-Smith, a Year 9 pupil from Sexey’s School, Bruton, received a silver medal in the 200m at Blackpool in the National Disabled Athletics Competition held on 4th & 5th July.

KS4 Girls Badminton – King Arthur’s 11th Nov 09

KS4badm3 24-11-09 King Arthur’s School, a hot bed of Badminton Talent, hosted the first of the National Centre Parks Badminton competitions for KS 4 girls. Although only 4 out of the 5 planned entrants attended, the schools that turned up demonstrated the value of the on-going partnerships that are emerging between schools, and the resources in the community. The girls were supported by not only school staff, but by competition managers, School Sport Partnership coordinators and most importantly by coaching and NGB development managers.

Year 10 & 11 Central Venue League Rugby Finals

CVL Rugby Year 11 final Sexeys v Westield The second day of the finals on the 25th March was equally cold and crisp, which didn’t appear to lessen the enthusiasm of the Year 10 & 11 boys who were clearly fired up to finish with a couple of wins.Westfield took on Stanchester and showed some well drilled skills by quickly recycling the ball, and with quick handling they quickly established a two try lead, which they took into half time. The value of team talks during the break became obvious when Stanchester came out clearly committed to getting back into the game and spent much time driving for the line within the Westfield half. Although they scored their well deserved try, Stanchester eventually lost 19-5.

Year 9 Central Venue Rugby Finals

Yr9 CVL Rugby Final Winners Bucklers Mead A series of Central Venue League fixtures, which was trialled for the first time this year, finally came to conclusion at the beautiful setting of Kings School in Bruton. Their PE staff had kindly agreed to host the fixture, chosen because the extensive playing facilities would create a festival environment, with many age groups playing at the same time. Their ground staff put in considerable effort to prepare the pitches to a high standard, which gave the fixture added significance.
