Bowls Victory For Swanmead

  The second annual Bowls match took place last week between Maiden Beech, Crewkerne and Swanmead Community School in Ilminster. Children aged from 10 to 13 took part following a number of coaching sessions at their respective clubs.

Step into Netball Scheme

The Maiden Beech and Swanmead clusters have recently held Step into Netball festivals with children from their feeder First Schools. All Year 3/4 children from 9 First Schools were involved in a competitive festival. It is intended to widen this scheme with inter-school matches organised by the PLT’s and supported by the SSCO. There would also be a large festival each year at the Middle Schools in Crewkerne and Ilminster.

Somerset Schools Futsal Festivals

On Tuesday 20th April and Thursday 22nd April the Somerset Schools Futsal Festivals were hosted at Buckler’s Mead School, Yeovil. Co-ordinated by Somerset FA and supported by the South East Somerset Schools Sport Partnership the event saw schools from all over the south of the County compete at U10s, U12s, U14s and U16s. It was a brilliant two days of competitive Futsal as the winners of the 3 older age groups will now go on to represent Somerset at the Regional FA Youth Futsal Qualifier next month.

Cheerleaders at Swanmead Xpress Themselves!

Cheerleading is proving to be an extremely popular after school activity at Swanmead with over twenty children attending and a growing waiting list to join sessions in the future.  It has been particularly encouraging to see so many girls involved who have not taken a great part in sporting activities before these sessions were organised.

High Five Netball Training

The new focus on National Governing Body priorities is slowly beginning to take shape, but not without some controversy. It can be hard for long standing established players to adapt to the changes and new forms of the game, however a child centred approach with the emphasis on widening participation and more appropriate forms of competition is at the heart of many of these changes.
