The second annual Bowls match took place last week between Maiden Beech, Crewkerne and Swanmead Community School in Ilminster. Children aged from 10 to 13 took part following a number of coaching sessions at their respective clubs.

The Maiden Beech team have visited the Severalls Jubilee Bowling Club where they have been tutored by Hilary and Ken Leamon plus Harry Black (all coaches from the club). Both groups were escorted by SSCO Bob Brunt.</span></td>

<td><span style="font-size: xx-small;">A presentation followed as past Committee members Pru and Ken Robbins have donated a cup to be competed for each year by the two schools. The Robbins Cup was presented to the victorious Swanmead team by the Robbins family in front of more than twenty spectators from both towns. Many adults commented how nice it was to see children playing with no arguing and lots of encouragement for their team members.</span></td>

Medals and certificates were awarded to the top 3 pupils in each of Years 4, 5 and 6. Events like this enable Primary Schools to deliver part of the National Sport’s Strategy – and in this instance ‘competition’ against other schools. </span></td>

The English FA are now promoting it as a key part of developing football through skills games. Played with a low bounce ball and on a basketball court it is fast and high scoring.</span></td>

Westfield School ran a Skipping Challenge, Table Tennis Competition, 5-a-side Football Tournament, Basketball Shoot Out, Ultimate Frisbee, Badminton, Non Stop Cricket, Athletics and Softball activities. On the Friday students experienced a highly charged day of Brazilian Dance.

<td><span style="font-size: xx-small;">The school also hosted a Mini Olympics for Year 2 pupils from its feeder Cluster schools. This was run by the new Sports Prefects with nearly 200 pupils coming to the school. The pupils were divided into eight teams each representing a different country. The boys and girls did eight different athletics challenges scoring bronze, silver and gold points for their performances. These were added up with the winning country being announced. An excellent afternoon of athletics was had by all with the Westfield Prefects doing an excellent job of coaching and officiating.</span></td>

On Tuesday 6th July, Chard area cluster of primary schools held its annual swimming festival under the slightly different guise of an Aqua-splash Festival.

Wincanton Golf Club, Wincanton Sports Centre and Yeovil Olympiads were among a few clubs that provided coaches for the two days.</span></td>

<td><span style="font-size: xx-small;">The week of sport closed with the Top Link Festival for King Arthur’s School partner feeder schools. KA student Sports Leaders pledged and ran a successful athletics and rounders festival for 150 Key Stage 2 pupils. The team of 20 leaders was managed by 5 of the best leaders from Year 10. Amy Chick, Matt Viola, Kerry Stone, Michael Brook and John O’Rourke. </span></td>

<td><span style="font-size: xx-small;">Despite a wet morning, where the leaders had to adapt their plans to accommodate the athletics inside, all students and staff had enjoyed a splendid and well managed morning. At 12.30pm the whole country participated in 3 minutes of sporting activity, Matt Viola managed to lead over 150 pupils, leaders and teachers skipping for 3 minutes in the sports hall.<br />
The day brightened up and the Rounders Tournament was able to run outside in the afternoon. Close matches were fought for both Years 3/4 and 5/6 age groups, however Horsington proved victors on the day!<br />
