The last in a series of Basketball Finals organised by the School Sport Partnership was played at Bucklers Mead Community School last Thursday, where the Year 10 boys from Bucklers took on their visitors from Holyrood. |
With both teams having a strong interest in the game the result was going to be hard to call and in the event the match could have gone either way.
Bucklers were on the score sheet first opening up a 4 point lead and clearly had been working hard on their passing skills across and around the zone. This was as big as the lead got between both teams throughout the whole match, and Holyrood soon brought the match level through a couple of baskets scored from the break.

The competitive game was played at a good pace, with both sets of players attacking and defending with great commitment. From 8 points all Bucklers nudged ahead to lead 12 -10 at half time and probably deserved to be so given their possession.
The second half was a much more end to end game, with frequent fast breaks resulting in the lead constantly changing. The passing around the zone game was dropped as both sets of attacking players drove hard for the basket, with strongly contested tussles for numerous rebounds. With 4 minutes to go Bucklers were hanging in for a win at 21-20, and although Holyrood scored to almost level the scores, Bucklers went on to secure a well fought win at 25-22.
