Leadership

Leadership and Volunteering within the Sports Partnership

Leadership is considered to be a very important part of the work we do here in the partnership. We strongly encourage all schools to foster a culture of Leadership and volunteering in school across the key stages. Leaders are the given the opportunities to assist at numerous festivals, competitions and also within lessons, lunch time & after school activities.

We have a range of leadership schemes and awards that run across the Key Stages. Many of our Primary and First Schools run a playground leaders scheme where pupils are trained to support and organize playground activities under the supervision of lunch time supervisors. At Key stage 2/3 pupils get the opportunity to gain the Sports Coach UK Young Leaders Award and at Key Stage 4 and above pupils work towards Sports Leaders UK Level 1 & 2 awards, Dance Leaders Award and many other NGB Awards.

Funding may also be available to run courses. Information and an application form can be downloaded by clicking the appropriate link.

Play Leader

The three sports partnerships across Somerset have worked together to develop the Somerset Leadership Pathway and awards system that will recognize and reward pupils for all the competent leadership work that is already happening across the county. The scheme passports enable pupils to work towards leadership targets grades which run in line with National Curriculum Levels.

Young Leaders Training

This pathway allows pupils to achieve awards no matter which leadership scheme they follow in school. Pupils achieving each level receive a certificate of recognition and also get the opportunity to purchase a leadership badge, polo shirt and hooded sweatshirt at certain levels.

Pupils reaching Level 5 of this awards pathway are automatically invited to attend a Partnership leadership Camp which runs bi-annually and then a select number of these outstanding young leaders are identified and then invited to attend the Somerset Leadership Academy which runs alongside the Somerset Gifted and Talented Academy.

Pupils interested in Community Volunteering are encouraged by schools to register on the Step into Sport Pathway. Pupils can start logging volunteering hours via the online passport system and work towards either a bronze, silver or gold award level. 40 pupils from across the partnership aged 14-16 yrs also have the opportunity to access 6 modules as part of the leadership academy which includes:

Module 1 Step into Sport
Module 2 Working with the CSN
Module 3 Festival/Event Planning
Module 4 Leadership Training
